IMG's Global Primary Medical Insurance (GPMI), marketed as Global Prima, is the unified international plan that came out of bringing together IMG and ALC Health. It's a modular plan: a medical core across five tiers, with dental and maternity available as optional add-ons — and it stands out for offering one of the widest ranges of underwriting options in the market.

Plans & structure

You pick a tier for the core medical cover, then add the optional benefits you want:

TierPosition
Bronze / Bronze PlusEntry-level core cover
SilverMid-tier balance of limits and price
GoldHigher limits and benefits
PlatinumThe most comprehensive tier

What's covered

The core covers inpatient and day-patient hospital treatment, with out-patient cover scaling by tier. Dental and maternity sit outside the core as optional benefits, so you only pay for them if you need them — useful for keeping the premium down if you don't.

Watch the waiting periods: dental has a 6-month wait and routine maternity a 10-month wait from your purchase date, so add them before you'll need to claim.

Underwriting options — the widest choice

IMG Global Prima lists an unusually full set of underwriting bases, so there's usually a route that fits your situation:

FMU — Full Medical Underwriting
You give your full history (the application has three headline "knockout" health questions). IMG then offers standard terms, applies personal exclusions, or declines — so you know where you stand upfront.
Moratorium (Mori)
No declaration upfront; recent pre-existing conditions are excluded and can become eligible after a continuous symptom- and treatment-free period.
CPME — Continuing Personal Medical Exclusions
Switching insurer carries your existing exclusions across as-is, without fresh underwriting of new conditions.
MHD — Medical History Disregarded
A group-scheme basis where the insurer ignores members' medical history, so pre-existing conditions aren't excluded. It's only for company/group policies that meet a minimum number of lives — which varies by insurer — so it isn't available to individuals.
Helpful detail: if IMG can't offer the underwriting type you applied for, it may offer an alternative — so it's worth getting advice on which route gives you the best cover. Nomi can flag it; a regulated adviser confirms terms.

Who IMG Global suits

A strong fit if you want to pay only for what you need — a modular plan where dental and maternity are optional — and especially if your medical history needs a flexible underwriting route — IMG's range is among the widest, and for company/group cover its Medical History Disregarded (MHD) basis can set medical history aside entirely (subject to a minimum number of lives).

Worth comparing if you want dental and maternity bundled in as standard, or a different plan structure. Comparing the market shows IMG beside the rest on price and terms.

Frequently asked questions

What plan tiers does IMG Global Prima offer?
Five tiers — Bronze, Bronze Plus, Silver, Gold and Platinum — for the core medical cover, with dental and routine maternity available as optional add-ons.
Is dental and maternity included?
They're optional. Dental can be added for an extra premium with a 6-month waiting period (accidents covered immediately); routine maternity is optional on all tiers with a 10-month waiting period.
What underwriting options does IMG offer?
An unusually wide range: Full Medical Underwriting, Moratorium, Continuing Personal Medical Exclusions (CPME), and — for eligible company/group schemes meeting a minimum number of lives — Medical History Disregarded (MHD). If IMG can't offer the type you applied for, it may offer an alternative.
Does IMG offer direct billing?
Yes. Once planned treatment is pre-authorised and eligible, IMG issues a Guarantee of Payment to the provider and settles directly, so you don't pay up front. Planned inpatient treatment should be pre-authorised at least five working days ahead.
How do I manage my policy?
Through the MyIMG / MyALC online member area — pre-authorise treatment, submit claims, search for medical facilities and access documents — with a 24-hour helpline and WhatsApp support.
